As ‘The Grocer’ reported the decline in usage of ‘Just Walk Out’ technology, it reminded me that it was only In November 2021 that Sainsbury launched JWO technology in its Holborn store amidst a flurry of announcements.
Now only 3 years later it is being withdrawn. It made me reflect that Retail is a relatively unchanged environment. It still relies on buying teams to buy effectively from suppliers and brilliant store staff to create an environment that provides great store availability.
Suppliers need to be able to unlock opportunities by engaging the Retail Buying Teams to offer real value and growth to shoppers. As we have consistently contested in these articles, there is no replacement for training and development of your account teams.
Does your company culture reflect this need in your induction and ongoing development opportunities?
What can you do?
Ensure that your account and finance teams focus on developing their skills and identify in your company inductions and CRM systems what is available both internally and from external providers.
