Ethical tea company Greenypeeps has launched the world’s first carbon negative tea range.

Whilst many brands have gone carbon neutral, Greenypeeps has gone the next step in sustainability as the first in the world to go fully carbon negative. Greenypeeps offsets and removes over twice the carbon that each of their products emit, leaving a net positive CO² impact on the planet.

It has worked with the Carbon Consulting Company,

It has worked with the Carbon Consulting Company, a Natural Capital Partners’ official Regional Assessment Partner, to run carbon analyses on every one of its products through each stage of its lifecycle from field to cup to disposal. This allows the business to review its current practices and take active steps to reduce carbon emissions across its own processes and supply chain.

Greenypeeps launched with a core range of eight organic black, green, herbal and spiced teas and four mood-based infusions. The infusions have been crafted by their own third-generation tea masters using their wealth of experience to balance flavour, body and colour, creating unique blends of organic fruits, flowers, herbs and spices.

This is a good example of how challenger brands need to focus to create a distinctive positioning in highly competitive categories. In this case, Greenypeeps is building its brand on a key purpose platform, farmer communities and sustainability. No brand can ignore their environmental and social impact anymore and it is increasingly important for many consumers. Greenypeeps’ commitment to invest in this, through carbon credits/offsetting and 3% of sales (importantly and creditably, sales not profits) going to local projects, shows that this is not something you can bolt onto your marketing messages. It has to be at the core of the business and brand strategy. Good work Greenypeeps.
